Eramus – Chief farmer of Hares End, prefers to go by Eram. A widowed man fighting to save his village from starvation. Miriam was Eram’s late wife, the bride of his youth and joy of his life. She passed away along with their infant son Jakes from an illness that swept through their village years ago. She figures prominently in Eram’s dreams.
Sheron – Miriam’s older sister, a widow with a young child who also named Miriam and is affectionately referred to as Little Miriam. Sheron’s mother was sickly and Sheron raised Miriam. She has an older son, Erin who married and moved to Piney Ridge where lives with his wife Lavender. She also has another son, Artur (about 16) who still lives with her and helps care for his mother and Little Miriam.
Lewatollma – A Nawiman explorer, in her native tongue, her name means “New Star”. A gentle and delicate soul, she is compassionate, kind and loving. Around her neck she wears a simple chain necklace with a small red gem called an Onnum which enables her to use special powers.
Nesneratha – A Nawiman explorer, in her native tongue, her name means “Bloom Amid Thorns”. Beautifull, but not one to be toyed with. She is arrogant, daring and a risk taker; nearly the opposite personality of Lewatollma. However, they are close friends and she is very protective of Lewatollma.

Arnette Donatina – Eldest daughter of Lord and Lady Donatina, she is a resident of Miricel. Her family is a prominent member of the aristocracy of the Fair Folk. She is the grand daughter of Ariel Donatina, the senior member of the Grandames. Arnette has two brothers and a host of younger sisters – part of a large and loving family.
